Day 13, May 15, 2024. We left Arachova and headed toward Itea which is near the Gulf of Corinth. We stopped at a family owned and operated honey farm. After that we drove to Kastraki, where we spent the night.
Peter took some morning shots in Arachova. Arachova, these shots show the amazing mountains surrounding this little town.
Went to the The Moka Honey farm, near Itea, Greece.
We got to don bee suits so we would not get stung, and learned all about bees and the honey making process.
Some of the over 300 bee hives. The bees can travel up to five miles before returning to the hive.
The owner (left) shows us an open hive.
The queen is in there some place. There is only one queen in each colony and she might live for five years.
Check out the closeup of a honeycomb. The colored cells contain pollen and the somewhat clear cells contain honey.
The holes in the hive are just big enough for the honey bees and too small for wasps and other predators. The orange the bee is pollen that the bee is returning with.
