Italy Day 5: Saturday was gloriously sunny and warm so we drove to Mount Vesuvius and did an energetic 5 mile hike round trip to the crater’s edge, with spectacular views of the Bay of Naples. We then returned to our hotel, and took a train into old Naples (Napoli) and toured the city for the rest of the afternoon. It has a wealth of history, lovely Piazzas, amazing churches, and gorgeous palaces of noble families from years gone by. We especially enjoyed Napoli’s Spaccanapoli district and Napoli’s famous Duomo (Cathedral). After a dinner of what else, famous Napoli Margareta pizza, we headed back to the hotel for the night.
