Italy Day 11: We had the perfect day to explore the Vatican with our local guide today. After an orientation in the Vatican gardens, we explored the museums, Sistine Chapel (no photos allowed) and then St. Peter’s Basillica. Then we explored the Piazza Navona, and the Pantheon. We still had energy so we hiked back to the Vatican and attended 5 PM Mass in Italian & Latin, and then, on a last minute whim, climbed the Dome and cupola of St. Peter’s. What a magical day, with thrilling history and sights.
