Italy 2023, Day 22, Back to Catania

Day 22, April 23rd: A day of relaxation! We enjoyed Sicily one last day before heading home.

We took in the view of Calabria, Italy from Messina, Sicily over the Ionian Sea and saw paraglider over Taormina Beach

We stayed in an Agrotourism hotel in Catania, Sicily, Sicily Country House & Beach. It has a lovely walkway through the orange grove to the beach.

Mary couldn’t resist trying out the Ionian Sea, although it was breezy at the beach the water felt great! We had the beach to ourselves!

Most of the oranges were already picked, but we could spot a few on the trees. We did have amazing home-grown orange just for breakfast.

We could see Mt. Etna from our hotel.

Fuel prices in Italy. Some may want to know. We had a diesel Opal Crossland, a larger vehicle. It only had 882 KM on it when we picked it up and 2,692 KM when we turned it in. 1,124 miles. It was great. Eight speed automatic transmission. It had plenty of torque, a really tight turning radius (that was needed in some of the narrow streets we were in) and it really zipped along. 130 KPH or more on the autostrada was no problem. It averaged 46.1 MPG for the seven days we had it. Diesel fuel averaged about €1.76 per liter, about $7.72 per gallon. We averaged $0.16 per mile we drove it. I’ve done the relevant conversions.
