Day Thirteen, November 29, 2024 – Port Douglas, Australia
Port Douglas in Northern Australia is located at 16 degrees south latitude. It was like Central America in June! The sun was right overhead. It is a rain forest and was humid, and hot!
We started the day by visiting Link from Kuku Yalanji Cultural Habitat Tours at Cooya Beach. He is aboriginal and taught us all about his local indigenous culture, foods and hunting methods in this coastal area of Australia. His tribe settle here because of the constant abundance of food. He introduced us to the tools used by his ancestors to harvest food and taught us how they lived off the land. Mary was able to lick the butt of a green lime ant (think lime juice), and we learned how to throw some spears.
After our cultural lesson we travel to Mossman Gorge for a hike and lunch. By the time we returned to the hotel all we could think of was hitting the pool.
