We left Australia and flew across the Tasman Sea and landed in Christchurch, New Zealand.

In February 2011, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake caused severe damage in Christchurch and Lyttelton, killing 185 people and injuring several thousand. They are still rebuilding.

After checking into our hotel, we took a walk.  We stopped at the Canterbury Museum Pop-up because the museum was under construction.  Briefly, we went into the botanical garden and checked out some of the local sites including those still under construction. After our welcome dinner, we took an evening stroll and saw many of the city’s building lit up at night.
