Day Four, November 20, 2024 – Melbourne, Australia
Our flight from LA landed eight minutes late, 7:08 AM local time. Not bad for a 16-hour flight. We cleared customs quickly, and met our driver, Daniel, who took us to the Rendezvous Hotel arriving about 9:45 AM. Our room was not ready, but they stored our bags. We walked to the Vodaphone store and got Australia SIM Cards for our phones. They were a very good deal, $15 AUD ($9.32 USD) for 60 Gb and 28 days. We took the City Circle Tram around the Central Business District (CBD). The city is very walkable, so we took off on foot and checked out St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and the artwork on Hosier Street and AC/DC lane. We got burgers for lunch at the Grille near Hosier Street. The hotel texted that our room was ready, so we went back and settled in. Then we visited the Immigration Museum which had some interesting art but was a disappointment. We took the free tram to Queen Victoria Summer Night Market, where we found many food vendors, live entertainment and interesting people watching. After enjoying chicken souvlaki and Paella with adult beverages, we took the tram back to hotel and stayed awake as long as we could.
